Pronunciation Reflection Unit #2

What have I learned from this?

Throughout Unit #2, we were exposed to pay close attention to different areas that involve pronunciation skills in English.

We were asked to listen to a couple of videos where L1 learners were getting tested for their IELTS. I chose to focus on Sample B which it was posted on the discussion forum. The participant was an Asian female in Band 4.

During the interview, it was obvious that the participant was nervous, causing her to forget many strategies and other skills at the time. I had never paid so much close attention to someone speaking before. It was quite neat to be able to point out and label some of the pronunciation mistakes. Elements such as diphthongs, voicing or unvoicing letters, aspiration sounds like in the word "paper," unreleased consonants like in Sample B's case, syllable stress, the intonation of a sentence and stressing a sentence are now under my radar.
